Welcome to the Westcoast Genesis Society
The Westcoast Genesis Society is a non-profit organization and registered charity formed in April 2000. Its mission is to actively promote the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being of persons who are socially marginalized.
The Society operates Genesis House, a 24-bed Community Residential Facility (CRF) and Programs Centre in New Westminster, British Columbia. Genesis House provides secure transitional housing for adult male offenders (federal and provincial) on various forms of conditional release under contract to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).
It assists offenders to reintegrate into the community as law-abiding citizens through a variety of programs that focus on the individual's needs for therapeutic interventions and practical solutions. The Society runs employment experience and placement projects to help clients prepare for, obtain and keep employment.
Staff also deliver a number of CSC Correctional Programs.
Westcoast Genesis Society has developed and delivers the first specialized residential program in Canada for offenders on conditional release living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The program uses an intervention model that accommodates the disabilities that these clients face. The residential program is funded through CSC per diem fees.
No government department at either the federal or provincial level currently has a specific mandate to provide the specialized services desperately needed by adults living with FASD. The Society believes that its programs, including the planned Maria Keary Cottage transitional and supported housing facility, can be replicated in communities across Canada with government funding and community initiatives.
